Its been 8 days since my last run. Since that run I have experienced some slight pain primarily in my right knee giving me some concern over my ability to continue running.
The mornings are starting to stay dark longer so I didn’t get up until 5:30am for todays run. Although I had my concerns I felt I needed to run 10km at a conservative pace to test my joints rather than looking for the exercise value of a run. Fortunately there was little wind, 15C and overcast making it almost perfect running weather.
I set off at an easy pace settling at just under 9.5 kph for the first few kilometers. I was concerned enough to be wondering if this run was going to define the end of my running forever! The niggly pains in my right knee and left hip did not grow any worse so I increased my pace just a little so as to increase my average over the 9.5 kph. By the time I reached 6 km’s I hade developed a bad sweat rash on my thighs but there was no way I was going to walk home from here! The pain from my rash was far greater than the niggle from any of my joints so it took over centre stage. After completing the 10km run I took a brisk 2km walk home but even the pace of my brisk walk home was slow *sigh*.
The pains do not appear to have been increased by this activity so it appears the decision on my running future is to be left to another time. To be truthful I am not sure if I am happy about this or not!
